Lock-On 2
Lock-On 2 is an updated version of the original LO gear. There are several differences between the original and the #2 variant, apart from shape.
But first the shape:

LO2 headset (front)
The most important thing of all is that both sets are fully compatable. And if you use a new hand unit with an old headset you will have the nice bonus of shooting 120m.
Hand Unit:
The design of the hand unit has been changed substanially, it is slighty shorter and much thicker than the original. The switches/buttons are the same except orange. The 'hi-power' button is rather hard to press because of the thickness.
The #2 hand unit still uses "C" size batteries and now has a screw and metal thread to hold the battery cover on.
The internal components are the same except for the infra-red emitter (clear instead of purple) and it still has the dual lens at the front, although the bottom one is still not used.
(There is what looks like a big dial in the middle of the hand unit - this does nothing.)

Headset:
The first thing you will notice about the new headset is that one third of it is missing. The piezo buzzer has been moved so that it is above the LED score display and faces upwards. Because the headset is not an even shape (symmetrical) it has to be worn to one side (the right). This feels rather uncomforable as the weight is to one side. The headset is also much thicker and squarer.
The #2 headset now uses 4 "AAA" batteries instead of the single "9V". The battery cover also has a screw and metal thread to hold it closed (although it is not needed on the old gear).
